Töten per Joystick (ARD die Story) | John A. Kantara

"Töten per Joystick" ("Killing by Joystick") is a German documentary on the rise of armed drones and the remote battlefields they create. The film follows operators, engineers, lawyers, and human-rights researchers to show what it actually means to wage war at a distance — thousands of kilometres from the strike zone, through a screen and a control stick. Alongside the technology, the documentary traces the ethical and legal debates: targeted killings, civilian casualties, accountability, and how existing rules of armed conflict apply when the pilot is sitting in an office. Part of the Kantara Films & Documentaries archive, the film is rooted in the production company's long-standing interest in war, security, and public policy, and is aimed at audiences wanting a sober account of one of the defining military shifts of the 2010s.
