Gut, besser, vegan | Documentary by John A. Kantara

"Gut, Besser, Vegan?" is a 45-minute documentary directed by John A. Kantara that investigates whether a vegan diet is genuinely the better choice for personal health, for the climate and for a global food system under pressure. Kantara travels through Germany, France and the Netherlands to meet chefs, entrepreneurs, scientists and activists shaping the modern plant-based movement, from Parisian vegan fine dining to Dutch laboratories developing cultured meat. The documentary weighs the environmental argument – including the climate impact of industrial livestock farming – against nutrition-science questions around vitamin B12, protein supply and long-term dietary research, letting experts and practitioners speak for themselves. Produced by ECO Media for ARTE, the film was awarded at the 7th International Festival of Documentary Films on Life Sciences in Prague in 2017. It offers viewers a level-headed, research-driven look at one of the most polarising food debates of the past decade.
